Helen and Douglas House - Dura's official sponsor
Dura committed to fundraising
To help support the fantastic work that that Helen and Douglas House provide for children and young adults across the UK, Dura are pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring the Oxfordshire based hospice over the coming years. Established as the world’s first children’s hospice in 1982, Helen and Douglas House are a foundation that are very close the whole of the Dura team.
Based initially from Helen House in the centre of Oxford, over the past three decades the team have continued to provide support and respite for children and young adults with life-shortening illnesses. By providing specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, the team at Helen and Douglas house help to enrich the lives of the children and young adults that they work with whilst helping to provide support and respite for the families of each child or young adult at the hospice.
However, although Helen House has continued to grow and support individuals of all ages, in February 2004 the team at Helen House realized that a children’s hospice environment is unlikely to be suitable for someone who’s 16 or over which is why the decision was made to open Douglas House. As the world’s first hospice specifically for young adults, the whole of the hospice has been purpose built around the feedback from the young adults that use it. As a result Helen and Douglas House are now able to provide tailored help for individuals from birth through to 35 years of age.
Because of the great work that they continue to provide, Dura will be supporting the whole team at Helen and Douglas House over the coming months and years.
