MASTERCLASS PART 1 of 3: TEXTURE

If you’ve ever looked at your newly decorated room and felt something’s missing, it’s likely that you’ve overlooked one of the key ingredients that make a space ‘pop’.

As creators of inspirational garage interiors for over 20 years, we have the expertise to get the very best out of often neglected spaces and transform them into stunning rooms to be proud of.

In the first of our new series of guides, we look to share some of that experience, with advice for considering one of the key aspects that make the difference… texture!

Why do I need to consider texture at all?

The ‘sense of touch’ is a vital part of the success of any room, and no more so than within your garage. If you’ve visited our showroom and tried out our cabinets first hand, you will know exactly what we mean. The touch of beautifully epoxy-painted cabinets combined with pristine stainless steel or beech wood surfaces conveys a sense ofquality that is unmistakable.

When choosing the finishes for your garage interior, it’s important to consider how it will be used and therefore how it should feel. After all, how would a premium sportscar feel without a beautifully luxurious leather interior?

Modular cabinets painted to perfection

Dura modular garage cabinets are made to order, which gives our customers a unique opportunity to choose from a wide range of paint finishes and colours. Our state-of-the-art paint line ensures that the finish of every custom cabinet is produced to the highest quality, something recognised by our elite Service-First Partner status awarded by Akzonobel - the world’s leading paint manufacturer.

So, what cabinet finish should you choose? It very much depends on the purpose of the room… but here are some suggestions:

  • A gloss finish provides a luxurious feel – perfectly echoing a beautifully polished car bodywork, therefore ideal for those looking to create a garage to showcase their pride and joy. Combined with creative down-lighting, this finish can give your interior real ‘showroom quality’.
  • A textured finish lends a reassuringly ‘tough’ feel – reflecting our furniture ranges inner robust construction. This is perfect for owners of 4x4s or enthusiasts of tough outdoor pursuits, and helps hide fingermarks … useful in what might be a very active garage.
  • or a matt finish for an ultra-modern feel – sleek and stylish, with minimal reflectivity… perfect for a minimalist garage transformation that will be brimming with 21st century technology.

Worktop finishes that are a delight to touch

Our cabinets are designed with a tough ‘pinseal’ textured worktop as standard, which looks superb and suitable for most uses. However, for those looking for something a little different we have a range of alternatives.

  • Stainless-steel worktops – provide a pristine ‘high-tech’ and robust surface, which adds real lustre to your furniture. When combined with under-cabinet lighting, the added reflectivity will create real visual drama in theinterior of your garage.
  • Solid wood worktops  provide a beautifully natural finish – perfect for home workshops, or those looking for something to compliment exposed beams within converted barns or out-buildings. It can also provide a delightful contrast to the steel cabinetry, and a long continuous run of 40mm thick beech offers an attractive focal point for the room.
  • A Duralon worktop  provides a 12mm thick continuous surface to span the furniture with a stylish join-free finish. Available in a range of colours, it provides a modern, sleek finish with subtle reflectivity.

Floor finishes that enhance your space

The floor finish is key to giving your garage its ‘feel’. Bare concrete is cold, dusty and unattractive… hardly the desired effect for your dream garage. So why not provide a beautiful texture underfoot that will enhance your room and compliment the modular furniture? With a choice of tiles for most budgets, here are the key differences to consider when making your selection.

PVC floor tiles

Due to their interlocking design, PVC floor tiles offer a quick, convenient garage floor solution which provides a great thermal, dust and noise barrier. PVC tiles are suitable for all garage interior functions including home gyms, play rooms and a space to park your car. Our PVC garage flooring tiles are available with raised studs or a textured finish making them anti-slip too!

• Quick to fit and can be used immediately - no adhesive required!

• Hard wearing and water resistant

• Act as a thermal and noise barrier

• Available in a choice of surfaces and colours

Porcelain floor tiles

Porcelain tiles are virtually maintenance free and as porcelain is practically impervious it is the perfect garage flooring solution for tough garage interiors. Porcelain garage floor tiles are perfect for your garage fit out if you are looking to use your garage as a workshop. Their raised pattern offers improved anti-slip properties over normal ceramics and once fitted they create a stylish noise, dust and thermal barrier.

Though more expensive than a painted floor, Porcelain tiles are long lasting, making them a good investment compared to other cheaper garage flooring solutions.

 • Extremely hard wearing

• A showroom finish – the professional solution

• Easy to clean, premium finish

• Available in a choice of finishes and colours
